The Great Escape Company run specialised two day leadership courses for students in Shropshire.
Specialised Leadership Courses for Prefects
The leadership courses we hold are designed especially for students, that are about to undertake leadership roles within a school, such as a prefect, head boy/girl, team captain etc. Schools normally choose to hold these leadership courses at The Great Escape during the Summer term, prior to the students last year with the school or in the September at the beginning of the students last year.
Our Aim
The leadership course normally runs for two days and one night. The course involves serious team building and leadership tasks that are performed in small groups and lead by an adult team leader.
The aim of the leadership course is to equip students with an understanding of the role of leader in a team, the skills involved and the confidence to apply them.
Leadership Course Objectives
By the end of a leadership course for students at The Great Escape the students will have:
- Acquired an effective team leadership model.
- Experienced 1st hand the benefits of team work.
- Built new friendships around shared experiences
- Appreciated the value and benefits of supportive behaviour.
- Grown in respect and appreciation for one another.
For each task, one student is chosen and assigned as a leader and one as an observer. The role of the leader is to lead the team to the best of his/her ability and as effectively as he/she knows how. The role of the observer is to sit with the adult team leader and evaluate the leader and the team members while the task is carried out. The observer is not there to compliment or criticize anyone, but merely evaluate the team and the leader accordingly. At the end of each task there will be a debrief and the observer will be asked to read the review of the exercise from the notes he/she has made. Following this there will be a discussion about how the task was carried out and what could have been improved on.
Reporting on the students
The adult team leader, having spent one to two days with each student in their team, will then produce a written report about each student which is given to the school’s group leader. The report will include details on the students’ performance including their leadership skills, ability to listen to others and lead the team through certain tasks.
